STARBASE Hartford - Students Visit the Engineering Lab at a Local University

classpicThe second day of December was graduation day for the 30 students from O’Connell school, who just completed their five day learning experience at STARBASE. During their visit, the students learned about the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in an engaging way – participating in their learning. The students have an opportunity to “become” scientists and engineers at STARBASE by testing theories in science experiments and designing prototypes to print on a 3D printer. STARBASE CT has been bringing a high-quality STEM program to the fifth grade students of East Hartford schools for four years, though the National DoD STARBASE program has been in existence since 1991.

STARBASE Oklahoma Receives Donation from Raytheon

An enhanced math and science curriculum for fifth and sixth graders will continue – thanks to a donation from Raytheon Network Centric System to the STARBASE Oklahoma program.

Jim Cunningham, Raytheon business development manager, presented the $5,000 check to a group of 5th graders from Geronimo Road School and to Brenda Spencer-Ragland, director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

STARBASE Graduates Receive National Recognition

Sen Tom Udall, Haley Hanson, Alana Kimmel, Jack Hanson, Jeff BingamanSTARBASE graduates Haley Hanson, Lana Kimmel, and Jack Hanson were honored at a reception sponsored by the Business and Industry STEM coalition in Washington, DC.  The coalition honored youth that had made an outstanding contribution in science, technology or engineering. All three students were graduates of STARBASE LaLuz in New Mexico. Senators Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman  congratulated the students on their accomplishments in national competitions.

Wright-Patterson Graduates 10,000th Student

A class attends STARBASE at Wright-Patt.A rambunctious group of fifth-graders sat on the floor in the Prairie's gymnasium May 20, anxiously awaiting the proclamation designating on of them as "STAR Dude."

Dunquan Hines, a fifth-grade student at Valley Forge Elementary in Dayton, received the honor of being named "STAR Dude," a moniker bestowed upon the 10,000th student to have passed through the STARBASE program.  The young man was presented with gifts to commemorate the occasion, and when asked  what areas of the program he most enjoyed, "flying" was his quiet response.

KS STARBASE Launches Summer Learning

Students making their own rockets."We see the kids advance each day as we lead them through the principles of science, technology, engineering and mathematics."

The 5-day course gives students projects that apply to daily life - plus a peek at military aircraft and ground vehicles as well.

Miles Beckman, a 5th grader from Lindsborg, says sitting in the seat of a helicopter was thrilling. "The Black Hawk was amazing!"

Centennial Students Finish STARBASE with a Bang

Students at NOSC STARBASE-Atlantis Pittsburg have fun displaying their rockets.North Versailles, Penn --Building roller coasters, launching rockets and flying aircraft are not the typical things every fifth grader gets to enjoy during a normal school day, but thanks to Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Pittsburgh, hundreds of students every year are able to learn these difficult concepts in a fun and exciting way.

Capito visits West Virginia STARBASE

The Congresswoman spoke to students from Montrose Elementary about her role in government and emphasized the value of a quality education. She also stressed the importance of STEM education to the future success of the United States.

Defense Department Program Exposes Students to Science

Students develop their skills using computer aided design.In 1989, President Reagan gave the Federal Aviation Administration's National Educator of the Year Award to Barbara Koscak because of her ability to attract students to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.  Her experiential, interactive curriculum was built around space and the physics of flight, and became the premise for the DoD Starbase program which was launched in 1994 and has since graduated more than 600,000 students.
