Capito visits West Virginia STARBASE

Charleston, WV  

Congresswoman Capito with studentsCongresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV) saw the value of hands-on experiential learning today as she toured the West Virginia STARBASE Academy in Charleston. The Congresswoman spoke to students from Montrose Elementary about her role in government and emphasized the value of a quality education. She also stressed the importance of STEM education to the future success of the United States.

 

 

Students from Yvonne Martin's fifth grade class were in the process of constructing air-powered straw rockets when the Congresswoman arrived.  After quizzing them on their rocketWest Virginia Congresswoman Capito and student designs, Congresswoman Capito observed the rocket launch and even took time to launch a rocket herself.

Following her visit with Martin's class, the Congresswoman visited Linda Edwards' class as students, armed with 22 sets of maracas, experienced the fundamentals of molecular motion and kinetic energy by dancing the "Solid, Liquid, Gas Groove," to the Buster Poindexter song "Hot, Hot, Hot."
